picnik

I like Adobe Photoshop just as much as the next guy and it is really great when you need to really work with an image, modify the contrast, levels and so on. It works great when you need layers and filters … I could go on but you get the idea.

But if all I need to do is take an image, crop it, take out the red eye (which is not as simple as it sounds in Photoshop) make the image B&W and easily save it to your local system or send it off to things like Flickr, Photobucket or Picasa then I have found the coolest thing that for just that. What is it, it is … picnik

What is Picnik?

Picnik is photo editing awesomeness, online, in your browser. It’s the easiest way on the Web to fix underexposed photos, remove red-eye, or apply effects to your photos.

What can I do with Picnik?

Pretty much everything! We’ve got amazing Edit tools that can fix just about anything that could possibly go wrong with a photograph. Lacking photo-editing prowess? A bunch of our editing tools are one-click fixes, including auto- fix, exposure, colors, and red-eye. And the others, like rotate, crop, resize, and sharpening, can be controlled with easy-to-use sliders.

Move over to the Create tab and you’ll see our custom-made Effects (most of which have the ability to be painted into just the areas of your image where you want them), an awesome text tool with dozens of fonts, dozens of shapes, including seasonal shapes for holidays and events, and some super customizable frames. Not to mention the touch up tools and new Advanced Editing tools.

The best part is that is FREE — Yes FREE!!! They have a premium service for $24.95 a year. Not a month but for a whole year.

Clever Idea - $10 wok keeps TV station on air

Neato.Things, TV No Comments »

Does this refine what a TV dinner is? Perhaps.

Why pay $20,000 for a commercial link to run your television station when a $10 kitchen wok from the Warehouse is just as effective?

This is exactly how North Otago’s newest television station 45 South is transmitting its signal from its studio to the top of Cape Wanbrow, in a bid to keep costs down.

45 South volunteer Ken Jones designed the wok transmitter in his spare time last year when he wanted to provide wireless broadband to his Ardgowan home.
“The $20,000 for a commercial link was just money we didn’t have, so we bought several woks from The Warehouse instead which was convenient and cheap,” he said.

Pre-recorded clips at the studio are fed through a computer and beamed to Cape Wanbrow where they are relayed off to television sets around North Otago.

The classic case of Kiwi ingenuity has made its way onto the internet and the technique has been posted by an American website, Mr Jones said.

Minority Report Becomes Reality

My friend Matt who is new blogger told me about this. This is so cool !

I came across this during a random stumble and am very excited. Jeff Han, a research scientist at NYU has been working with new forms of human-machine interaction models, and the multitouch Interaction platform is the result…it’s an amazing interface..no menus or mousing..it’s all done by touch. Zooming, rotating, selecting, moving, you name it, every way you can imagine manipulating data objects is probably possible with this thing.

Tunnel Bridge

Neato.Things, Pictures 5 Comments »

The bridge (or should it be called tunnel) goes under water to allow movement of ships. In order for ships to pass, this bridge is half under the water. You drive down in the water and then come out on the other side. Truly a marvelous piece of engineering!

This bridge is between Sweden and Denmark . Picture taken from the side of Sweden. Perhaps they are going home to after shopping at IKEA?

Update: Guess what this bridge is not in Sweden nor is it in Denmark.  It is in the US around the Newport News area in Virginia.

Loremo - simple. clever. fun

This is a glimpse of the future. This concept car is real and you can buy one today. Well almost, you can buy one but delivery will not be until 2009. At this rate, gas prices will be seriously out of control. Once of the many great features, is that this car is designed to be economic from top to bottom including the overall price of the car. Order yours today!

How expensive will petrol become? How valuable is the environment really to us?
Why do we need 1.5 tons of steel to get an 80 kg person from A to B?

While trying to answer these questions we developed a concept which ensures mobility for everyone also in the future: Loremo = low resistance mobile!

The cars of the future will have to be more efficient, which means less consumption of resources during production and operation. Loremo stands for this efficiency.

Loremo is based on the principle of a captive balloon: Whoever sheds ballast, will pick up speed.
The sensational fuel consumption of only 1.5 litres / 100 km is due to the reduction of weight and air resistance and is the result of a productive “struggle” for comfort, design and efficiency. Remembering what is essential does also mean to reduce parts and material as well as to merge functions and, in doing so, also to reduce costs.

> simple!

Loremo offers functionality in a most confined space, versatility and simple handling. And with a consumption of 1.5 litres per 100 km Loremo is not only friendly to the environment but also good for your purse.

> clever!

As a sports car, Loremo offers the pleasure of driving with “added value” and defines a pioneering - because sustainable - philosophy of life - and all this at a sensationally nice price!

> fun!

The Loremo principle:

simple. clever. fun
