What time is it on Mars?

So, you can be an uber geek and get this little Java app to run on your PDA or cool Java enabled phone. Because, everyone is going to call you and will need to know what time it is on the red planet.

Mars24 is a Java program and browser applet which displays a Mars “sunclock”, a graphical representation of the planet Mars showing its current sun- and nightsides, along with a numerical readout of the time in 24-hour format. Other displays include a plot showing the relative orbital positions of Mars and Earth and a diagram showing the solar angle for a given location on Mars.

U.S.S. Enterprise Inspired Nissan Terranaut

Beam me up! That is all I have to say.

Nissan of Europe has released a bevy of images showing every nook and cranny of its upcoming Geneva-bound concept, the Terranaut. The 4×4, according to the company, was designed for “scientists, geologists, archaeologists or adventurers” whose office is the great outdoors.

It seats three people in an interior quite obviously modeled after a U.S.S. Enterprise shuttlecraft. The “spherical laboratory” is accessed from a seat that swivels 360 degrees to give any intrepid scientist access to all of the vehicle’s workstations. Those workstations leave room for only one passenger-side door, while the driver’s side has two swing-out doors with no b-pillar. What’s the chance of seeing the Terranaut on the street? Pretty good if you own a Holladeck.

Water Bridge

An amazing water bridge in Germany…. What a feat!

Six years, 500 million euros, 918 meters long…….now this is engineering!

This is a channel-bridge over the River Elbe and joins the former East and West Germany, as part of the unification project. It is located in the city of Magdeburg, near Berlin. The photo was taken on the day of inauguration.

The photograph displayed above is one of a real structure, a kilometer-long “concrete bathtub” water bridge over the Elbe River in Germany that joins the Elbe-Havel canal to the Mittelland canal near the eastern town of Magdeburg.

As Deutsche Welle described the bridge upon its completion in 2003:

Taking six years to build and costing around half a billion euros, the massive undertaking will connect Berlin’s inland harbor with the ports along the Rhine river. At the center of the project is Europe’s longest water bridge measuring in just shy of a kilometer at 918 meters. The huge tub to transport ships over the Elbe took 24,000 metric tons of steel and 68,000 cubic meters of concrete to build.

The water bridge will enable river barges to avoid a lengthy and sometimes unreliable passage along the Elbe. Shipping can often come to a halt on the stretch if the river’s water mark falls to unacceptably low levels.

Plans for joining the two canals had been conceived as far back as 1919, and construction on such a project began during the 1930s, but first World War II and then the post-war division of Germany put the project on hold until after German reunification was achieved in the 1990s.

This is a very clever little mind reader. So, it can read minds, great, but I want one that predicts the future. Anyway, play away!

One Billion Page Views

Is it possible for a Web site to receive 1 billion page views without marketing of any kind? I mean can it happen, sure … there is the Million Dollar Homepage after all. The net is virual.

The story goes that AJ bet a friend £1,000 (that is about $1750) that he could do it. Why not help him out, and keep him in fish and chips or bangers and mash for a month?

My name is AJ, I’m 26 years old, I have been making sites since the age of 17, I don’t have a degree, not a a-level, not even a gcse, everything I know is self taught, I believe that the internet is the greatest invention of the millennium, the door is wide open for me…

“I recently made a website that grew from nothing to 200,000 hits in the first week, over a game of snooker, I just happened to be boasting about it to my friends, which then turned into a debate on how websites work and how to promote them… one of them challenged me, and I love a good challenge, they bet me and said they would gladly give me £1000 if I could make a site that gets One Billion Hits! There was one major clause, I cannot spend a penny in marketing the website, just me, my laptop and nothing else! We all know I could simply put a refresh tag in and leave my laptop on for a month… so I told him I would get 1 billion unique hits just to prove it can be done!”

TransPod

Mac OS X, Neato.Things No Comments »

So, me and myself along with everyone else wants to listen to their iPod in the car. The cassette works good, but since I travel and use rental cars and in this day and age, the cassette tape player is a thing of the past.

I found this cool gadget and decided to give it a go. It worked out great. Here is how my iPod looks in the TransPod in my truck.

There’s a lot in the TransPod packaging for all iPods, new and old. Mine is a 3G version. There is the TransPod itself, this is what your iPod or iPod mini will slide in to. The digital FM transmitter is also inside the module. They give you an insert for use with the iPod mini, as well as two soft pads that stick to the interior of the TransPod module so your iPod doesn’t rub against hard plastic. It’s a snug fit, which is good, as it means there is no chance of your iPod falling out. Because no one want to see their iPod on the floor.

Once the fit of the iPod in the module was confirmed, there are several mounting options. There is a two-piece plastic arm set: one piece of the arm has a power adapter plug on the end, so you can plug it directly in to your vehicle’s power socket. Usage of the second arm piece, which is more adjustable than the charging arm, is dependent upon how you want to place the iPod so it’s easy to use.

You can even get the TransPod in different colors too!

Kami-Robo

These are way cool! Paper robots in a ring. Who would have figured!

Kami-robo are robot fighters made from paper, measuring about 15 to 20 centimeters tall. They have joints at the shoulders, hips, elbows, knees, wrists and ankles, which enable them to move freely and smoothly. They are designed to fight. Hold them in your hands and discover how ferociously and skillfully they can wrestle. If injured, they are immediately repaired and returned to the ring to fight to the bitter end. This is not a delicate handmade collection that requires special care.
